Two powerful Typhoon just leave in the last 2 weeks, another one is comming this week, Guangdong's tilapia industry is experiencing 3 violent typhoon before the peak season comming.

It's easy to understand, during the period of typhoon/raining, the farmer will not catch their Tilapia , but actually, the influence will last for 7-10 days even after raining, that's quite normal in this industry.

In this situation, we can expect the workload will increase a lot and may last for several months after the Typhoon.

Chinese New Year Holiday end

Chinese New Year Holiday officially end on 03Feb2017 , most of the company will begin to run normally after 7 days holiday.

But a lot of company still in holiday, some will resume normal on 06Feb, some may even later as still lack of enough manpower to run normally. Some company busy to recruit new staff to reply those worker who had back to their hometown and will not comeback anymore.

In our industry(Tilapia Processing Plant and Exporter), worker will only come back from their hometown in Mid Feb, so everything will back to normal only after that, and our first container of Tilapia for export will in Late Feb.

Yes, only after that,we will say Chinese New Year Holiday end.

Peak Season ? Low Season

The Chinese New Year Holiday begin from 28Jan2017, but most of the worker had left the processing Plant for their Spring Festival Holiday-The most important holiday for Chinese.

Even though we still have several container of Tilapia need to process and export in the comming week, but we had to adjust manpower , and recruit temp local staff to handle, yes, this situation happen every year.

And for the Tilapia Farmer, they even stop earlier, they had stopped catching the fish , and waiting for the Chinese New Year comming.

What's means for Peak Season in our industry

Yes, begin from Nov, the peak season in our industry arrived.

In the peak season, the man who incharge for planing the fishing process for farmer will very busy, the phone will keep ringing, and plan their fishing and logistic schedule.

In the peak season of our processing plant , means the worker have to handle(gutted and scaled) over 30-40 tons fish every day, and in some case , the farmer begin to queue in early morning to ensure the fish(most are tilapia ) can hand over to us on time and make sure the quality is good enough.

In the peak season,, means you have to load 1 or 2 container tilapia every day, packing and loading, in and out cold storage full day.

Anyway, processing plant are happy to see the peak season, as it's always better than low season, in low season, the boss have to pay the worker even they have nothing to do.

Qingdao Fishery Expo 2016

Qingdao Fishery Expo is the lagest Fishery Exhibition in China, means it's the most important Expo for this industry.

This year's show ,more than 1300 copanys from 44 countries and regions exhibiting and estimated 30000 visitors from omre than 100 country attend, it's the world's 2nd largest seafoods exposition.

As usual, a lot of Tilapia processing plant/exporter exhibiting in the expo, and we also found a lot of order had been puted during the expo.

Price begin from Oct

As we known,begin from Q4, weather becomes cooler and fish catch increases. Overall prices of fishes start to go down. And average price of tilapia was down by 0.1 yuan/500g in near a half month.

Nanning, Guangxi province was the tilapia production region whose prices dropped a lot: price in inner suburbs was quoted at 4.5 yuan/500g and outer suburbs at 4.2 yuan/500g, both down by around 0.7 yuan/500g. According to local industry insiders, marketable fish quantity reached annual peak point and as a result, sales stalled. Pond price also faced high pressure. Local factories’ purchasing price was set at 3.3-4.3 yuan/500g and was stable. Purchasing quantity was also stable.

Price dropped within 0.1 yuan/500g range in other production regions. Based on analysis of industry insiders, different kinds of aquatic fishes marched onto market simultaneously and prices would also go down accordingly; besides, production regions without farming conditions over winter all accelerated their pace on sales. Tilapia price started to head downhill.
