Industry explained that most of the production origins put off the fry stocking in the spring, which caused the small supply of marketable size of tilapia up to now. In July, processing factories began to stockpile the fish. Purchasing quantity increased and the supply, as a result, went down accordingly. Therefore, the tilapia price started to go up. In Chinese domestic market, tilapia death is more likely to happen because of the hot weather at present. Besides, there is wastage and damage in the transportation. As a result, the price enjoys a slight increase. Meantime, the fry stocked after Tomb-sweeping Day hasn’t grown into marketable size yet. Overall, the whole production in the production origin places is relatively small, pushing up the pond spot price.
Based on the later increase of purchasing amount and the decrease of fish quantity on market, industry insiders predict that the price in the following days will be profitable. Given the China tilapia price index, tilapia pond price will continue to grow up in August and September. So there is still increasing space in the following week.
