In the peak season, the man who incharge for planing the fishing process for farmer will very busy, the phone will keep ringing, and plan their fishing and logistic schedule.

Qingdao Fishery Expo 2016

Qingdao Fishery Expo is the lagest Fishery Exhibition in China, means it's the most important Expo for this industry.

Price begin from Oct

As we known,begin from Q4, weather becomes cooler and fish catch increases. Overall prices of fishes start to go down. And average price of tilapia was down by 0.1 yuan/500g in near a half month.

Nanning, Guangxi province was the tilapia production region whose prices dropped a lot: price in inner suburbs was quoted at 4.5 yuan/500g and outer suburbs at 4.2 yuan/500g, both down by around 0.7 yuan/500g. According to local industry insiders, marketable fish quantity reached annual peak point and as a result, sales stalled. Pond price also faced high pressure. Local factories’ purchasing price was set at 3.3-4.3 yuan/500g and was stable. Purchasing quantity was also stable.

Price dropped within 0.1 yuan/500g range in other production regions. Based on analysis of industry insiders, different kinds of aquatic fishes marched onto market simultaneously and prices would also go down accordingly; besides, production regions without farming conditions over winter all accelerated their pace on sales. Tilapia price started to head downhill.

Sep: Overall Price Going Down but Average Price Higher Year on Year

As we know, Overall Tilapia price trend in September was stable, but price downward pressure was mounting in late September. On one hand, price simply went up as kinds of aquatic products rush to market during peak season; on the other hand, some producing areas don’t enjoy overwintering farming conditions so that local farmers showed considerable enthusiasm to sell the fish, which pushed the price adjustment. Besides, processors changed their procurement price recently, making the price unfavorable. As a result, some panicked farmers sold their fish in a hurry.

According to previous years’ China tilapia price index trend, downward trend was the general trend in Q4. But the downward pressure was not so much in the short term, 0.1 yuan/500g up or down in the following week.Actually, the price is quite different from Guangdong/Guangxi/Yunnan/Fujian.

According to the most updatae inoformation, from January to August, Hainan totally exported 84, 000 tonnes of seafood product overseas, up by 6.4% year on year. 71, 000 tonnes among all the products were tilapia and tilapia-related products, which increased by 7.8%, accounting for 84.8% of the total exported seafood and aquatic product volume. American Market: more and more focus on product safety

Director of American National Fisheries Institute (NFI), John Connelly, stated on the forum that American Food and Drug Administration (FDA) had rejected more than 300 batches of seafood product imported from China from 2015 to August 2016 as a result of antibiotics residue, forbidden drugs out of limits and unqualified product hygiene status. And tilapia was the kind of product with most problems that products from 23 Chinese tilapia exporters were found of antibiotics residue and forbidden drugs. The survey showed that 41.2% products were from Guangdong province while 35.3% from Guangxi province.

American Market Developing Director of Global Aquaculture Alliance (GAA), Chris Keller, said that China was still the largest origin place of seafood product for USA although Chinese tilapia export into American has met many obstacles in recent days. American consumers focuses more and more food safety. They wanted to know the final origin of place of the product, the producing and processing procedure of the imported seafood, whether they contained antibiotics, whether they were GMF(genetically modified food) and whether adulteration problem existed in the seafood.

Tanzania has formed a task force to stamp out blast fishing along the Indian Ocean Coastline

"As the government, our goal is to stamp out blast or dynamite fishing by this year. The team is to start its work very soon from now," said William Ole Nasha, Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries in Tanzania's capital Dodoma.

He directed local authorities along the Indian Ocean coast to take legal measures against fishermen who are involved in blast fishing.

He, however, said that apart from the task force and other initiatives in place, Beach Management Units should continue working on a number of issues including blast fishing.

Ole Nasha suggested the need for local authorities to continue educating communities on the negative impact of blast fishing.

"Blast fishing destroys the fish habitats underwater where fishes reproduce and that has had a big impact, especially on us who use ring nets to fish," he said, adding that blast fishing reduced fish stock and other marine resources.

In the process, the underwater coral systems, home to countless marine species, are reduced to rubble. Damaged coral reefs also lead to an instant decline in fish species diversity and quantity, and in the long-term the ecosystem is unlikely to recover.

Fresh Water Fishes Prices Go Stable As Market Supply Go Up

Weather turns cool in some of the China Area, fresh water supply begin to rise in aquatic product markets and their prices also go stable. Although trading prices drop slightly in whole compared with that in previous days, they are still higher compared with that of the same period in last year. One reason is that consumption peak is surely on the way as Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day are around corner. Another reason is that crucian and bream prices dropped about 1 yuan/500g recently, compared with that in July and August. Grass carp and silver carp price also decreased slightly recently, which would spur the market consumption.

For example, this week’s grass carp price in Guangdong province is almost same as that in last week, which goes stable with slight increase. Small size grass carp fry supply also increases, whose price is expected to decrease a little. The price drops 0.1-0.3 yuan/500g this week in some regions in Hunan, Hubei, and Yancheng, Jiangsu province. The reason is that summer fishing moratorium ends in China Yellow Sea and Bohai Sea and kinds of seafood march to market in large quantity, causing the sales drop of freshwater fishes whose price also begin to fall within a small range.

But for Tilapia, both Supply and demand are low, the farmer may all looking for better price.

We believe that in following months, it’s possible that four family fishes prices continue to drop, but are still higher than that in previous years. Grass carp and silver carp with the largest trading volume haven’t reach its peak market season. Local new grass carp has just been available on market and it takes time before silver carp goes to market. There is estimation that price gap of different sizes of different fishes(say tilapia fish ) will expand when fresh water peak season comes.

Tilapia Prices Stably Rise in All Chinese Origin of Places in the End of August?

It was report that ,In late August in Hainan province, tilapia price for 500g above size was 4.1~4.5 yuan/500g, 0.1~0.2 yuan/500g up month by month; tilaia price for 500g below size was 3.6~3.7 yuan/500g, 0.1~0.2 yuan/500g up month by month. In west Guangdong province, tilapia price for 500g above is 4.4 yuan/500g, 0.1 yuan/500g up month by month; 500g below size was 3.4~3.6 yuan/500g, 0.1~0.3yuan/500g up month by month. In Zhujiang River Delta, 500g below size was 3.2 yuan/500g, 0.1yuan/500g up month by month.

It’s known that, tilapia prices in all the production regions rised stably in the end of August. At present, tilapia catches in Zhujiang River Delta is relatively small because some of the fish was sold to Hubei province where heavy rains caused sharp drop of production, and, therefore, price went up in Zhujiang River Delta as the supply went tight.

But seems the prices rise not including Fujian Province, according to our information, the price in Fujian is low, but not sure how long the situation will last .

Relatively big size fish in Hainan was in small quantity. The catches were low as the fishing was relatively difficult because of hot weather. Demand went high in west Guangdong. Catches were relatively stable and price rose slightly. Industry insiders expected the price would go stable and rise slowly in the following days. More holidays would come in September in America, and it’s expected that orders would also go up, which would push volume of fish stock up accordingly.

Tilapia Price Goes Up, Especially in China Guangxi and Fujian Province

At the begining of August , pond spot price of tilapia goes up with stable trend. Following is China tilapia price index collected until August 3rd, 2016: 300-500g, 98.41, 1.27 higher than that on last statistics day and 0.40 lower year on year; 500-800g, 99.03, 0.67 higher than that on last statistics day and 8.82 higher year on year. The situation in Guangdong/Hainan is quite the same.

Industry explained that most of the production origins put off the fry stocking in the spring, which caused the small supply of marketable size of tilapia up to now. In July, processing factories began to stockpile the fish. Purchasing quantity increased and the supply, as a result, went down accordingly. Therefore, the tilapia price started to go up. In Chinese domestic market, tilapia death is more likely to happen because of the hot weather at present. Besides, there is wastage and damage in the transportation. As a result, the price enjoys a slight increase. Meantime, the fry stocked after Tomb-sweeping Day hasn’t grown into marketable size yet. Overall, the whole production in the production origin places is relatively small, pushing up the pond spot price.

Based on the later increase of purchasing amount and the decrease of fish quantity on market, industry insiders predict that the price in the following days will be profitable. Given the China tilapia price index, tilapia pond price will continue to grow up in August and September. So there is still increasing space in the following week.

Guangdong and Hainan Tilapia Price Jumps Twice Recently As Market Supply Falls Short of Demand

Recently, tilapia price rises remarkably in Chinese domestic market. According to China Tilapia Price Index, it has rised from 95.16 in mid-July to 102.04 at present, 6.88 points up in such short period. And the up-trend still keeps strong. In Hainan province, one of China main tilapia origin of places, the price also goes up, which jumps twice during the same period, from 3.9 yuan/500g (debt price, 500-800g size) to 4.1 yuan/500g and then to present 4.3 yuan/500g (cash price 4.4 yuan/500g);Actually, it's quite the same situation in Guangdong province.

The main reason for the price rising is that the tilapia supply can’t meet the demand,another reason is Heavy rain and typhoons are an annual disruption to the aquaculture fishery . Although the price goes up and the fish available on market also increases, most of the farmers still hold an wait-and-see attitude towards the market, looking forward the price to rise 0.1-0.2 yuan/500g more. As a result, the overall tilapia supply is still low. Meanwhile, some processing factories begin to prepare for the orders to be placed by the end of this year. Their raw fish procurement also increases. According to local industry insiders, some of the factories purchase the fish in a quantity near to the daily-needed processing amount.

Industry insiders believe that besides the reason that farmers are reluctant to sell fish at present, the put-off fry stocking in origin places this year, which causes 30-40% less of available big size fish and only 20% stock of 500g above size fish at present, also contributes to the short supply of fish on market.
